Finding a home remedy that actually kills bacteria in your mouth curing bad breath instead of covering it is often times like finding a needle in a haystack. There are many remedies that claim to cure bad breath, but in all actuality many of them just disguise the problem. One fact remains the same, without regular visits to your dentist, good hygiene and diet, fighting bad breath will be a fighting against the odds. Bad breath home remedies can be effective. It is a mere matter of a combination of ingredients. And, let's face it, living an odor free lifestyle does have its perks, our social circle for one!

If you are troubled by mouth odor the first step is to visit your dentist. It is mandatory to have dental visits every six months. Periodontal disease is the second most common cause of awful breath. Good hygiene will also need to be practiced. You may need to change your brushing habits, from the mere once when you get up and once at bedtime, to after each meal, sweet and soda consumption and you will need to introduce flossing. A well-balanced diet will also need to be practiced, daily. Eat plenty of fresh raw vegetables, fruit, seeds, nuts and grains and avoid coffee and sugars. Drink plenty of water and drink plenty of raw green vegetable juice. With balancing your dental visits, hygiene and diet, bad breath home remedies will be effective.

Begin by replacing your mouthwash. Most mouthwashes contain alcohol, which in the long run dries out the mouth causing unpleasant breath. Instead, use a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. Mix half tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water. Take a swig or two each morning and gargle for ten seconds and then spit. This will help to control the bacteria which cause mouth odor.

Because bacteria hide in the crevices of our tongue, it is necessary to clean our tongue. Brush your tongue once or twice a week with baking soda (one of the many great bad breath home remedies for baking soda), which will discourage the growth of bacteria, fighting terrible breath. Also, use a tongue scraper to scrape the tongue.

Now, for a great breath mint. Chew on a bit of unripe guava fruit or its leaves. Guava not only helps to cure mouth odor, it aids in healing gum bleeding.

Dill is excellent to chew on or make a tea with. Simply put a small handful in our mouth and chew. This will fight the odor and the bacteria that cause mouth odor. Parsley and spearmint are other great bad breath home remedies. Just bring two cups of water to a boil adding a few springs of chopped parsley or spearmint. Add a few cloves to the mixture and steep, stirring the mixture occasionally. Allow to cool, strain and drink as a tea.
